In Wado, we do not assume a 'large pose' in the beginning of our kata. We do not exaggerate our initial position. The arms are relaxed, therefore they will lay by our side naturally, the fists are set but not tightened. We look natural. We do not try to look strong or intimidating. When you try to look strong there is unnecessary tension in the body and that tension gets in the way of quick movement. This runs counter to the martial way of thinking. When we go, we go. Otherwise you die.
